    Job Coaching Program

    Participant Application

After a successful pilot program offering complimentary coaching to our community during COVID lockdown periods in 2020 and 2021, AV is excited to announce that applications are now open for our fee-for-service job coaching program.

    • If you are ready to apply for a space in our coaching program, please click the Register button and complete the application form.

    • If you are looking for general information about the coaching program, if you have questions about the coaching program, if you are interested in coaching but are not yet ready to apply, or if you are a parent / carer / support worker of a potential applicant, please visit the coaching page on the AV website and browse the resources we have available.
    • We also invite you to add your name to the AV mailing list for coaching to be notified of upcoming coaching opportunities.

    Eligibility criteria

    • Coaching participants must be aged 18 or older.

    • We welcome applications from individuals with Aspergers, autistic individuals, and those with other similar neurodivergent profiles.

    • Application is open to members and non-members, however you will need to have a current AV membership to proceed with coaching beyond the initial discovery session.

    • The application must be completed by the person who will be participating in the coaching program
Note for parents, carers, and support workers: if you know someone who may be interested in coaching, you are welcome to share information about coaching with them, however we do ask that this application form is completed by the applicant themselves.

Cost: $450 for three sessions with an AV Job Coach.

(NDIS participants may be able to use plan funds to cover this fee.)

    What happens next?

When you have successfully completed and submitted your application form, you will receive a email confirming that you have completed the form successfully. Your name and your responses will be shared with our coaching team. When a coaching space becomes available, we will contact you to arrange a discovery session with you.

As we have received a lot of interest in this program, this may take some time, but we will do our best to contact you as soon as possible.

      Adults Group: April

      - in person meeting

      About the Adults Group

Our Adults Group is for older members of the Aspergers autistic community and those with other similar neurodivergent profiles. It is more suitable for those who are aged 35 years and over, although younger adults are welcome to join in. (Young adults may prefer to attend our Young Adults group meetings as well as or instead of this group.)

This month, we will be talking about: Managing your life (executive function).

The Adults Group is a parent/carer free zone - we ask that parents / carers of attendees join our separate Parents & Carers Group instead.

(Autistic adults who are also parents or carers are most welcome to attend independently of the person they care for.)

Using Discord, they can join servers they have been invited to, create private servers with their friends, or message each other individually or in group chats. We suggest reading the Parents' Guide to Discord Blog before joining for the first time.

Is it safe for our teens to use?

Yes. Aspergers Victoria have created a dedicated, secure server for our Teens group. Only registered participants can access the AV Teens Discord server, and the link changes monthly for security. Our moderators have the list of registered teens and will only allow them to be online during the meeting.

              Book Club: May

              About the AV Book Club

We read and discuss work by autistic authors as well as non-autistic authors.

This month, we will discuss Exciting Times by Naoise Dolan

In stylish, uncluttered prose, Naoise Dolan dissects the personal and financial transactions that make up a life—and announces herself as a singular new voice.

Ava moved to Hong Kong to find happiness, but so far, it isn’t working out. Since she left Dublin, she’s been spending her days teaching English to rich children—she’s been assigned the grammar classes because she lacks warmth—and her nights avoiding petulant roommates in her cramped apartment.

When Ava befriends Julian, a witty British banker, he offers a shortcut into a lavish life her meagre salary could never allow. Ignoring her feminist leanings and her better instincts, Ava finds herself moving into Julian’s apartment, letting him buy her clothes, and, eventually, striking up a sexual relationship with him. When Julian’s job takes him back to London, she stays put, unsure where their relationship stands.

Enter Edith. A Hong Kong–born lawyer, striking and ambitious, Edith takes Ava to the theatre and leaves her tulips in the hallway. Ava wants to be her—and wants her. Ava has been carefully pretending that Julian is nothing more than an absentee roommate, so when Julian announces that he’s returning to Hong Kong, she faces a fork in the road. Should she return to the easy compatibility of her life with Julian or take a leap into the unknown with Edith?

Politically alert, heartbreakingly raw, and dryly funny, Exciting Times is thrillingly attuned to the great freedoms and greater uncertainties of modern love.
