Moderated Minecraft - AspieLand

Pilot Program, 2020

** Registrations are still open! Fees will be pro-rata, so please email Jenni at admin@aspergersvic.org.au before you register for more information. **

"AspieLand" our moderated Minecraft server has been developed and shaped in consultation with the children, teens and families who access AV groups and programs.

Our pilot program will give up to 25 children and teens (aged 12 and above) an opportunity to connect with people who get them, escape the world of COVID-19 for a little while and experience the joy and creativity that gaming can bring. It will offer Aspergers children and teens not only time to interact and play with their peers but also a larger community that they belong to. They can practice their social skills with each other – safe in the knowledge that a moderator is there to help support them and remind what sort of behaviour is appropriate and what goes too far. It also gives parents the reassurance that that moderators will be on hand to offer guidance to help their child / teen navigate the online social world.

Who can attend?

  • Children and teens aged 12 and above
  • Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced players
  • Players who hold a current AV membership
  • The first 25 players to register and pay will be given priority.

We know there is a lot of interest in this new program and we will investigate expanding the program to more players and other age groups (children and young adults) in future, following feedback from this initial teens pilot.

Available Sessions

In our pilot program, the server will be moderated and online twice a week (10 x two hour sessions). Please note these times may need to alter slightly as we accommodate what is best for our moderators and their families:

  • Tuesday 17 November (4pm – 6pm)
  • Saturday 21 November (3pm - 5pm)
  • Tuesday 24 November (4pm – 6pm)
  • Saturday 28 November (3pm - 5pm)
  • Tuesday 1 December (4pm – 6pm)
  • Saturday 5 December (3pm - 5pm)
  • Tuesday 8 December (4pm – 6pm)
  • Saturday 12 December (3pm - 5pm)
  • Tuesday 15 December (4pm – 6pm)
  • Saturday 19 December (3pm - 5pm)

What platform will be used?

Our AspieLand moderated Minecraft server is only available via the Java edition on PC.

Pocket Edition (PE), Xbox, and Minecraft: Windows Edition accounts cannot access AspieLand.

Who are the moderators?

Our Moderators are older teens from our Aspergers community. AV staff will support these teens with training and guidance.

Cost

$100 for the 10 session pilot program. This allows you access to all ten sessions. You are welcome to attend all / as many as you are able to. If cost is a barrier, please talk to Carla - gm@aspergersvic.org.au
